Tamedia recently acknowledged the importance of sustainable development, with management making a firm commitment to it. As a result, the company’s overall environmental and social rating has gone up from "+" to "++". Despite its long tradition in environmental and social responsibility, Tamedia had until now said little about its commitments and achievements in the field.

Tamedia has several strengths. Aware of its role in social debate, the company cherishes its political and economic independence, and by defining guidelines in the area, it has underlined its wish to contribute to a balanced public debate. It also attaches importance to the development of employee skills and industrial relations. In addition, it has an integrated management system covering the environment, quality and safety, and expects to earn ISO 14001 certification this year. It can also boast several environmental achievements, e.g. environmental procurement criteria, reduction of printed matter, “green” offices etc. Note also that although disclosure is still one of its weak points, Tamedia has pledged to publish more comprehensive information on the matter in 2003.

Tamedia is one of the leading Swiss media companies ("Tages Anzeiger", "Finanz und Wirtschaft" and "Facts"). Its operations range from printing to distributing newspapers and also cover electronic media (TV, radio and the Internet).
